John Paul to lead Allegheny Health Network

John Paul has been appointed president and CEO of the newly formed Allegheny Health Network, which includes the newly acquired West Penn Allegheny Health System.

Allegheny Health Network will also includeJefferson Regional Medical Center,Premier Medical Associates, other practice groups, a medical mall, ambulatory surgical centers and a medical group purchasing firm. Also on tap to join the network is Saint Vincent Health System in Erie once Highmark's acquisition has been approved.

Allegheny Clinic is the name of the system's new physicians' organization.

"This is a great day, an historic day, an exciting day," Highmark President and CEO William Winkenwerder Jr. said. "It's the beginning of a new day."

Paul said the Allegheny Health Network had a strong future in the region's health care.

"This new integrated delivery network will create more health care choice and a greater focus on individual wellness and disease prevention – all of which will provide immediate and longer-term benefits to our patients and customers," Paul said in a statement.
