Hospitalists

Hospitalists are doctors who assume responsibility for the observation and treatment of a patient while he or she is hospitalized. PMA hospitalists work in conjunction with the patient's primary care physician to ensure complete medical care. Once the patient is discharged from the hospital, they are returned to the care of their primary physician.

Why may a hospitalist care for me?

As a practice dedicated to providing the best quality of care for its patients, Premier Medical Associates believe the use of a Hospitalists Program improves the overall hospital care and experience of the patient. Hospitalists provide dedicated care to the hospitalized patient and allow the patient's primary care physician to remain available for patients at his or her practice site, rather than dividing time between the site and the hospital. Studies have shown that hospitalists decrease mortality, length of stay and readmission rates in the hospital. They also reduce medical errors and provide active roles in making facilities for efficient.

How does the hospitalist practice work?

A Hospital Associates of Pittsburgh physician will be in charge of the patient's care and will see him or her every date to direct treatment while they are in the hospital. A hospitalist is available on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they attend promptly to any emergencies that may arise. They are available to talk with the patient and his or her family at any time.

During a hospital stay, Hospital Associates of Pittsburgh will communicate with the patient's primary care physician to discuss further treatment, follow-up care and any necessary medications. To learn more about PMA's Hospitalist Program, please call 412-858-7618.
